Your play style in life - YoM Day 219

Seven months ago I began a journey of practicing mindfulness every day and we've reached day 219. Yesterday, I talked about helping others. Today is a new day.
"The world is more malleable than you think and it's waiting for you to hammer it into shape." - Bono
I sometimes think about how much different my life would be if I made some different decisions. If I were still living in the states, what would I be doing? Would I enjoy it? What kind of life would I be living? Would I still be making art? Play piano? How would my goals be different?

I liken life to an RPG game. You start out with terrible stats and aren't very strong, but as you defeat enemies and progress through the game you gain experience. Gaining experience allows us to develop new strengths and abilities. In some games, you can choose between different ability paths that will influence how you can interact with the world and what future paths open up to you. A person who chooses to pursue only strength would have a very different experience from someone who pursued dexterity or luck.

In the same way, we manifest our experience in different ways that allow us to move forward. Some of us pursue strength, others wisdom. Some work hard and grind away from small things, while others tackle giant tasks. How we grow depends on our play style. It's not so much which path we choose, but how we choose to walk down it. Many people end up giving up half-way down the road and never get to see the seeds of their effort bear fruit. Yet it's during the times we want to give up that we have to keep standing the most.

Our lives carry the potential to differ so drastically with a single decision, there's no telling the full scope of what the world has to offer us. As such, there's no real knowing which path is "correct" 100% of the time until after-the-fact. Some lead to a dead-end while others allow for further growth. There are endless possibilities to an infinite number of choices. With enough effort and tenacity, the worst of times can become the catalyst we need to propel our lives in the right direction.

Like the RPG, sometimes we have to adapt and change our play style to suit our strengths. In life, we must do the same. There is no "wrong" build, rather, it depends on how we choose to act with the options given to us. It's up to us to forge the path that we want. In understanding ourselves, we become able to shape our lives around our strengths. Just play your character and you'll find the way that suits you best.
