YoM Day 125: stardust

Yesterday, I talked about being more mindful of what's going on. Today is a new day.
"You and I are all as much continuous with the physical universe as a wave is continuous with the ocean. You are a function of this total galaxy, bounded by the Milky Way, and this is a function of all other galaxies. You are that vast thing that you see far, far off with great telescopes. You are the eternal thing that comes and goes that appears - now as John Jones, now as Mary Smith, now as Betty Brown - and so it goes, forever and ever and ever." - Alan Watts
We have the idea that we know ourselves better than anyone because we experience our life every day, however, that view, while coming from a rational point of view, is also dangerous to hold on to. If we think we know everything about ourselves, that leaves no room to discover new things about ourselves. Anyone who thinks they know everything about anything is only limiting themselves. In the same way, we prevent ourselves from knowing who we really are.

As single wave in the ocean is a part of the whole. While they each have their own identities, they are all contribute to the same purpose. Energy is something that cannot be created or destroyed. Although we are able to convert energy, we cannot manifest it from nothing nor can we deplete it completely. With this in mind, we are all made of energy and matter. Although our consciousness is young, the fiber of our being, our core, stems from the source of everything. We are the same ancient energy that came from the Big Bang manifested in a form that has consciousness. The people we see around us represent different combinations of the same cosmic energy. We are our friends and family yet we aren't. We're a new representation of the same old material and the possibilities are limitless.

In a funny sort of way, living creatures are the mirrors of the universe, perceiving itself through a set of eyes. Perhaps that's why it's often said that the eyes are the window to the soul? Our bodies, then, are a representation of the universe. We create life without even realizing how we do it. We know WHAT we're doing, but HOW? I know how to make a sandwich and did so before writing this. I have no idea how I'm digesting it, creating new cells, and how I'm commanding each of my fingers to write this.

What Watts and many others have tried to express is the connection between the body, mind, and the universe. It is all connected to the source, which some might call God. Many people fixate themselves on the importance of their identity, yet we are so much more than that. We're all connected.

All is one, one is all.

                                                                                                                       Peace
sparkle
We're all the spark that lights up the dark made from stardust.
