There once was a pheasant and a bull that were in a field. The bull was grazing and the pheasant was picking ticks off of the bull. There was a magnificent tree at the corner of the field and the pheasant looked up at it with a nostalgic sigh and said, "there was once a time where I could fly to the top-most branch of the tree. Now I don't have enough strength in my wings to even reach the first branch."I heard this story from one of Sadghuru's talks.
The bull said to the pheasant, "that's no issue. Eat a little bit of my dung every day. In a fortnight you will have enough strength to get to the top where you desire to be."
The pheasant said, "what kind of rubbish is that? Come on..."
"No, really. Try and see," implored the bull.
Hesitantly, the pheasant began to pick at the dung. As the bull promised, within a fortnight the pheasant was able to reach the top-most branch of the tree. As the pheasant was beginning to enjoy the scenery at the top of the tree, an old farmer was sitting in his rocking chair and noticed a fat pheasant sitting at the top of the tree. He took out his rifle and shot the pheasant down.
"Bullshit can get you to the top, but it never lets you stay there."
So many people rely on diet fads, get-rich quick schemes, or products that promise to "enhance" our lives and while they may initially provide the "fix" we're looking for, such methods almost never last.
The easy-way sounds great because most people don't want to put in the effort. But if you end up half-assing something, how can you expect your happiness to last? Just like your methods, your thoughts on what would make you happy were also likely half-assed. Bullshit is still bullshit, no matter how much gold is sprinkled on top of it.
Peace
If it sounds too good to be true, it's probably bullshit. |
Can you think of some of the bullshit that's been around you lately?
