YoM Day 3: Your message

Yesterday, we looked at being more compassionate to others. It's a new day.
"My life is my message." - Mahatma Gandhi
When I read this, I thought about how I struggled to find purpose in my life for a long time. Even now I'm not 100% sure I'm walking down the right path in life. I think it's natural for people to seek purpose in their life and some people just have no idea. Whether it's not knowing the self or not knowing which of many routes in life to take, many people find themselves not knowing where to go.

Even if we're not sure, our life represents who we are, what we value, and what we stand for. The life of someone who dedicates time toward fitness and someone who focuses on academics are completely different and have very different messages. One lifestyle says that health is very important, while the other believes that nurturing the mind is of top-priority.

Our life is also our legacy. What we do while we're alive can set the bar for the next generation. It could be the inspiration that could help influence the creation of a new product, art piece, musical genre, or generation of ideas and values. How we live our life determines what legacy we leave behind.

When Gandhi lived his life, he dedicated it to doing what he believed was right. He dedicated his life to achieving something and ended up setting off an entire social movement. I think his message is also telling us that if we want to leave something behind - whatever it may be - we have to put every fiber of our being into it. We have to put our soul into our work. We have to dedicate our life to it if we want that message to really stand out. We can't half-ass it.

What message do you want to leave behind?

                                                                                                           Peace

Your purpose in life may be to find your purpose and giving your whole heart and soul to it

  1. Today's assignment: consider if that is true for you, and, if so, what is the message of your life?
