YoM Day 76: take some risks

Yesterday, I talked about sharing. Today is a new day.
"It is in playing safe that we create a world of utmost insecurity." - Dug Hammarskjold
We are taught from a young age that we should "be careful" and not put ourselves in the face of danger. "It's bad, so you need to be safe" is a view that trains us to not take risks and explore the possibilities. It's a mindset that keeps us confined in our bubble of safety that keeps us from pushing our limits. It feeds the fear we have of the unknown and has the power to make us timid cowards.

"What doesn't kill us makes us stronger." This applies to everything. As children we go outside and touch everything. We get sick and from our recovery we develop a stronger immune system. Although it's good to be hygienic, people who relied too much on being sterile and not getting sick outside end up sickly and unable to adapt to the changing of the seasons and the oncoming viruses that go get spread around. This is what happens to our confidence when we never grow from our experiences. Our confidence has nothing to grow from and thus stagnates and burns out like the unattended flame.

When we add value to ourselves we become unbreakable. The opposite is true when we stop looking forward. If we're never challenged we cannot grow. When we stop growing, like senescence, we eventually stagnate and wither away. Nobody got anywhere simply coasting through life. When it comes to improving the self and accumulating value we have to take some risks if we want to reach new heights. We are our own greatest obstacle. Similar to gambling, you can choose to go big or go home.

                                                                                                                          Peace
Taking risks
Risks are challenges for us to overcome. They're there to help us grow, not impede our progress.
