YoM Day 72: our own purpose

Yesterday, I talked about how we learn from loving things unconditionally. Today is a new day.
"This is the true joy of Life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one...the being a force of Nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy." - George Bernard Shaw
Most of us go through life searching for a purpose. It's our way of justifying our own existence and giving us value. Makes sense, yeah? I don't think anyone actually wants to be completely useless. When we find that purpose and fully commit to it, it's like meeting an unstoppable force.

The look in the eyes of such people is completely different from that of someone who's given up on everything. You see a certain spark, a glimmer in their eyes of someone wanting to make it to the top that's not present in someone who doesn't care anymore. It's like comparing the ripe apple to a rotten one. One is tough and glistens while the other is dull and brittle.

Finding your purpose, in my eyes, is something that you have to do yourself. People can help guide you by opening up new opportunities for you to learn and grow, but ultimately, you're the one who's walking down the path. I think it's just as important to be the one to choose your path as it is to find what that path is. If we don't give ourselves purpose, I think we're still bound by the interests and values of others.
