Yesterday, I talked about moving forward when doors close on us. Today is a new day.
However, being smart and being wise are two very different things. Wisdom is more akin to what many refer to as "street smarts". The wise are those who have a clearer understanding on how the world around them works in terms of its dynamics and how they affect each other.
Knowledge is the accumulation of facts and information, while wisdom is a deeper understanding of how things are connected and through comparing our knowledge and experiences. The knowledge we acquire is the foundation for mental growth and wisdom gives that knowledge meaning to your life.
The 4.0 student whose life falls apart after graduation is an example of this. Simply memorizing facts and writing papers doesn't always translate to a prosperous life, which I felt wasn't emphasized enough in schools. I think many companies recognize this in their job-listings when asking for someone with experience.
Knowledge about something is great, but without experience and practice it's nowhere near as valuable as we might be led to believe. Wisdom is gained from applying your knowledge, which is why companies place a lot of value in someone who already has a feel for what they're doing. It's like reading about baking cookies and having actually made them before. The person with the experience is probably going to make the better cookies if they follow the same recipe.
With enough time, dedication, and experience, anyone can become a master. I think that's why so many old people are awesome.
Peace
Science is a method of thinking that has been practiced for hundreds of years. Modern science is more recent (in the last 200 years or so), but the idea of taking a thought and figuring out why it is true or not has been a part of civilization and its growth for millennia. This method is how we've come to make so many technological advancements. It has given us the knowledge to improve and expand upon what we have. We've become very smart."Science is organized knowledge. Wisdom is organized life." - Immanuel Kant

Without application, all of this knowledge holds less meaning. |
